Catnip

This is what you get when you mix a cat with catnip. Darla is no stranger to catnip, she just can't get enough! Right now wild catnip is still in bloom for a short time, she seems to prefer organic to the mystery stuff you get from the stores. Catnip is a member of the mint family, and is very easy to grow. If you have a cat and some garden space, you should give it a shot! It also attracts a lot of butterflies as well!

Purse

Darla is ecstatic today! We just found out that we have earned a total of $1.37 toward our goal of $100.00 dollars! Darla is always the optimist, and even though it seems like a small amount, it is at least a start.

She just wanted to say thank you for reading, and clicking on adds, and donating. She looks forward to filling her purse with cash so she can march into the vet and have her 'work' done. Who knows, maybe she can even get a pair of shoes to match her handbag.

See you all soon!

Learning the Ropes

Darla has been doing her homework, surfing the internet, and learning the ropes when it comes to having her own blog. She informed me she has come to a few conclusions about what direction she would like to take with this new project. First she wants to explain why there is a donate button.

Currently, Darla has not been spayed, and she would really like to be. She understands that there is a serious problem with overpopulation, and that there are not enough homes for all the wonderful cats and kittens in the world. She feels blessed to have found a happy forever home.

We need to raise 100 dollars so we can get her taken care of. She says thank you in advance for any and all of your help. We will keep you posted on our spaying goal whenever there is an update to be made.

Well that is all for today, time for a catnap.

Hungry!

Everybody loves dinner time, and Darla is no exception. Here our young friend is enjoying one of her first meals at her new home. She looks like she is contentedly gnawing away at dry kitten chow, she must have been hungry!

Darla also enjoys tuna from the can. Oddly enough, when presented with sashimi grade tuna, she turns up her nose. She only takes her tuna packed in water, no oil for her.

She does not usually snack much, but when she does, watch out! She is not very picky with treats. Treats with soft centers and crunchy outsides seem to be preferred.

On an interesting side note, Darla's original foster name was Cookie. Since she really is not much of a cookie eater, her name was changed. I am pretty sure she prefers her current name.

Call her anything you want, just don't call her late for dinner.

Darla

Darla was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia on July 17th, 2007. She came into this world as a stray along with another brother and sister. She and her siblings were found by a vigilant citizen when they were the tender age of 3 weeks old, clinging to the lifeless body of their mother. She had been hit in the road by a careless motorist.

Darla came in to my life about a month later as a surprise from my roommate at the time. She had been adopted once already to a home that had an older male cat, who did not take to the energetic kitten very well. The concerned foster parent placed an ad on the local Craig's List, which my friend happened to see.

When I first met Darla, I had a hole in my heart made by a beautiful cat named Alice I had lost in a messy break-up. I had foolishly said to myself that I will never love another cat again. Boy, was I wrong!

After a long nights work, my friend had picked me up and told me there was someone at the apartment who wanted to meet me. Thinking it was a potential suitor, I mumbled to myself about being smelly from work. But when I got home there was a little ball of fluff wrapped in a baby blue blanket waiting to say hello. It was one of those moments frozen in time that I will always remember.

After shedding the initial happy tears, we became fast friends. And as her friend I vowed to take good care of her. Which brings me to why I am writing this blog.

As everyone knows, times are tough, and without a job or any prospects, I have been struggling to provide for Darla. I do not believe the axiom that 'if you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet". I can't afford to live without my treasured friend and companion.

Any support such as subscribing, commenting, or donating would be greatly appreciated by Darla and myself. We will thank you for your continued support by fresh postings inspired by Darla and her daily shenanigans.

Much Love,
Josh and Darla.
